Students, Students and Stress Management in the Midst of the | Pandemic TIMES Indonesia

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The Covid-19 pandemic has shaken the world and caused everyone to experience things that never thought would happen in 2020. Starting from social distancing, work from home, and using masks and hand sanitizer every time you leave the house to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community. It is undeniable that students and students throughout Indonesia are affected very much because these three things cause all schools and universities in Indonesia to have to dissolve their students and students.

This causes students and students to carry out teaching and learning activities with teachers or lecturers conducted virtually, either through Zoom, Google meet, Ms. Teams, and others. This activity is commonly called online or online learning. The positive side of online learning activities is that students and students can spend their time with family or quality time because at home every day, it is easier to work on their hobbies, and learn to manage time well so as not to miss classes and deadlines.

However, there are some negatives as well, such as there are many things that can distract their concentration during class (noisy home conditions and smartphones) that can cause students or students to not understand the learning material, there are more tasks with adjacent deadlines, and can not meet or gather with friends their age because of social distancing.

There are students or students who cannot control the negative sides of online learning that have an impact on piling up thoughts to lead to stress. Stress is something that students and students should avoid because if left alone, it can develop into depression and the worst case, suicide.

Based on several sources, the author summarizes that there are 6 things that students and students can do to cope with their stress in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, namely:

1. Know what makes you stressed

There is a saying that says, "Don't know then don't love." Therefore, recognizing the root of the problem that makes us stressed or many thoughts will be very helpful in solving the problem itself. When we feel pressured because of the number of tasks with adjacent deadlines, it helps us solve the problem by making a schedule so that our daily life is more organized, tasks become not piled up, and we can ensure that the tasks will be completed before the deadline. If we feel burdened because we miss leaving the house, it's a good thing we try to get out of the house still using the required health protocols and do not leave the house too long.

Well, if we feel burdened by the internet network at home that is bad or slow, we can overcome it by calling the wi-fi company or replacing a new card that we can order online when we do not want to leave the house.

2. Adequate rest

Never think that rest is not as important as the deadline of our tasks. If we lack rest, our concentration can be disturbed and will of course hinder the workmanship of our tasks. Not only that, our bodies will be exhausted and become weak which can make it easier for us to get diseases, such as flu, fever, and even typhus. When we have enough rest, our bodies are better prepared to deal with our activities and enable us to concentrate more.

3. Doing sports

Eitss, the purpose of doing sports is not just to shrink the body or create muscles. Based on Halodoc, exercise also plays a very important role in reducing stress because exercise can reduce hormones and stress nerves by activating organs in our body. Well, for that, we should not underestimate exercise for the sake of our physical and mental health! The sports that we can do at home today are yoga, aerobics, and running. However, running can be done if we have a treadmill at home because if we run outside, we are required to wear a mask that can cause us difficulty breathing and less comfortable.

4. Regulate diet

Did you know that our daily food and drink can have an effect on the ups and downs of our mood and academic performance? This is because nutrients have a big role in our brain function to our blood pressure. For that, maintaining a diet will greatly help us in thinking clearly, having a good mood, and lowering levels of hormones that cause stress. Based on Hellosehat, there are 5 dietary recommendations to reduce stress, namely eating fibrous foods and sources of compound carbohydrates, reducing fat intake, increasing the consumption of vitamins and minerals, and drinking plenty of water.

5. Talk to someone

Humans are social creatures, for that when we are having a lot of thoughts it's good we tell it to someone and not harbor it ourselves. Based on Stanford University psychiatrist and behavioral sciences, Dr. David Spiegel, when we talk to someone, we can reduce the stress or burden of thoughts we have because we can vent our emotions and feelings which can result in our mood much better than before. But, when we feel very burdened to tell it to our friends or family, do not be harbored but have conversations with psychologists through applications, such as Secruhat, Riliv, Persona, and many more.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "You are what you think all day" means"You are what you think all day." Emerson taught us that if we think we're happy or happy, we'll feel that way too. This is because the mind is everything to us.

For that, students or students must get used to thinking positively by speaking in ourselves, with ourselves, that we can complete our tasks before the deadline. If our mind focuses on it, new thoughts that can help us achieve it will emerge and we can do so.
