Deficiencies in personality and coping with stress

1. Ability vs. Inability to cope with stress/ pressure.

In this section to better illustrate how we cope with stress, we show two images. In the image below we show a man carrying 4 large loads.

Every burden that the person carries is related to problems in life:

  • Girls ignore school.
  • Fighting with a partner
  • The child is sick
  • Financial difficulties
  • The subconscious mind is able to accommodate anxiety only to a certain degree. This depends on the quantity, intensity and duration of the problem at hand. As shown in Figure 1A this person is able to maintain his attitude with a number of problems / issues in life that are being faced at this time.

  • Girls ignore studies/schools.
  • Fighting with a partner
  • The boy is sick
  • Financial difficulties
  • Proverbial: The last straw that broke the camel's back - . Not getting a promotion / Forgetting to put someone's phone
  • As in the second 1B figure, when anxiety has overstepped the mark due to additional problems such as not getting promoted, the clinical (psychosomatic) manifestations of stress become increasingly apparent. Here, 'not getting a promotion' becomes the trigger/proverbial 'straw that breaks a camel's back' thus pushing a person into a negative state of mind such as depression. Situation as a trigger / pepata: The last straw can vary for each individual based on their individual personality. It could be a more severe problem such as not getting a promotion or a lighter problem such as forgetting to put the phone. Both of these are able to direct a person to a critical point so as to push him into a state of depression. Outsiders may think that a person's reaction is disproportionate in the matter. But what they don't see is the chain of events and layers of problems that occur before the 'last straw', which ultimately pushes a person over the limit towards a sense of depression.

A person's inability to deal with pressure and tension results in unhappiness. 2. What things affect us in dealing with stress in life?

A person's capacity to deal with anxiety depends on how much energy is available to deal with pressure. The available mental energy can be reduced due to unwanted traits in personality (personality deficiencies/disorders) and unresolved problems.

    • The shortcomings of personality as mentioned earlier are traits such as anger, fear, laziness, indecisiveness, lying, and being pessimistic. Unwanted characters drain our minds all day robbing us of our mental energy.
    • Unresolved issues refer to unpleasant incidents in the past, which are still feared and that cause a person anxiety. For example, when a student fails an exam, it causes him to be very anxious and depressed. He recalled how he had suffered and feared he would fail again in life, he could suffer again like the past. So his mind continued to be burdened with unfinished business. Unresolved problems also condition the mind to react to the stresses and tensions of life in some way. By taking the same example, failing an exam that results in depression, can also condition a person in reacting to failure in other fields as well, in the form of depression or becoming an addict. Having a long list of what to do can be a cause of tension and can add to unresolved things.

So when there are many flaws in personality and some unresolved affairs, then more mental energy is used to neutralize anxiety caused by bad character and unresolved problems. As a result, everyone has varying amounts of energy to deal with the same pressures. Therefore, a person's inability to cope with stress in life and causes unhappiness, especially arises from unwanted nature in one's personality and anxiety caused by past events or unresolved problems. Personality as a cause of stress

Another important thing to recognize is that the situation itself never causes stress; It depends on how someone sees it. The way a person views an event depends on his personality, for example attending a party is an event that is commonly enjoyed by most people, but for someone who is quiet attending a party becomes a stressful event. The following table provides some examples of how undesirable qualities/traits in personality make an event stressful. Unwanted personality deficiency That can be a source of stress/stress1. Lack of confidencePergi for a job interview, for a challenging career/ job2. Sentimental: The loss of the grandmother's gift ring3. Shame Talking to the opposite sex4. Emotional/HopeBe fight with a family member or friend.

The bottom line is that those with slight personality flaws and little ego are better able to handle higher levels of stressful events. Conversely those with many personality deficiencies tend to fall faster with various forms of stress.
